A Warm Scottish Welcome
I'm back from Edinbrick and what wonderful weekend it was. Doug, Graham, Rick, and all the amazing volunteers put on a great show. The venue was huge and there was so much there, my favourite, by far, was the Gotham micro landscape build by BFlyBricks (pictures on the show page). There was an amazing Heihei collab by the members of BrickM8, which will be coming to Shildon (with additions by Brick Alley members) in November, and New Edinbara was there with all it's amazing cubes, also my effort. I even met a consul from the Japanese Consulate, which was very exciting. Most importantly, I've come back with renewed motivation to build.
Next up, show wise, is Darlington Brick Show at the end of May. As it stands, I have nothing new planned for it, I may put together a small build just to say there is a new thing. I'm also going to try to add a small 'topper' to my Edinbara cube so it can be displayed by itself, and make some overall improvements, as there were several things I'd like to have done that I didn't get chance to do before Edinbrick.
As for building, I have several ideas. I'd like to continue with the Japan theme in some way as I've gotten incredible feedback over the last couple of shows. I'll almost certainly move away from the mosaics though, I like them, they are fun to do, but they create a wall between me and the visitors, making it harder to engage. I'd like to do something more 3D, something more engaging. I'd also like to do more with light and movement. I'll be moving away from the idea of one new thing per show, as I'd originally planned, and create a full display for the year to go around each of the shows. One thing per show was fun but given how many shows there are, and the variable amount of time between them, planning builds is complicated. So now, I'll debut each new display at Shildon, with something special for Bricktastic. That gives me a year to plan, design, and build; and also work out how to transport and assemble stuff. And I'll be doing more 'just building', where I sit with bricks instead of designing in Stud.io first.
Anyway, I have to go to work now, so, you know, have a good day.
Clockson.
